$24 Million Faubourg Lafitte Selects Gibbs Construction as GC

Fauborg LafitteThe third phase of the Faubourg Lafitte housing project redevelopment is moving forward, with developers working with Gibbs Construction as the lone bidder on the project, with a submitted bid of $17 million.

This phase of the project, which includes 100 units in a nearly 100,000 sf apartment building for low-income seniors, has a budget of $24 million.  Financing comes from HANO and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The development is part of a $148 million redevelopment of the old Lafitte Projects, one of the large public housing developments that were demolished following Hurricane Katrina.The developers include L+M Development, Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. and Providence Community Housing.

According to an old 2011 presentation from the developers, the Lafitte redevelopment was to include 276 public housing and low-income rental units consisting of single-family homes, duplexes and six-unit buildings in addition to the senior citizen building.  The development also includes 141 for-sale units.
