Chipotle Sued For Breaking Lease On Magazine Street

Burrito and taco joint Chipotle has apparently decided to break its lease and not open at 2801 Magazine St. in the Garden District, according to a lawsuit filed March 19.

Chipotle went through a lengthy process last year and ultimately won approval to open on Magazine Street. As part of the concession to neighborhood associations, the building owner agreed to enter into a “good neighbor agreement” with the associations that would prevent them from leasing space in the building to another restaurant.

Since Chipotle broke the lease and decided not to open, the building owners were left with a good neighbor agreement that restricted their property and millions in lost rent payments.
