Developer Mike Vira has proposed building two four-story hotels near the entrance to the new airport terminal in Kenner, reports nola.com.

The two hotels would have a combined 203 guest rooms and would carry the flags Candlewood Suites and Holiday Inn.  Construction costs would cost a combined $25 million, or $123,000 per key.

The area on the north side of the current airport is currently marked by small homes, vacant lots, and run down buildings.  The area, near the entrance to the new terminal, is ripe for redevelopment.

A third hotel, a 70 room Best Western, is planned to be built on Airline Drive between the intersections of Alliance Avenue and the St. Charles Parish line.  The developer of that project is Abdul Siddiqui of ARS Management LLC.  That hotel would rely on middle-class travelers already familiar with Airline Drive as a location dotted with hotels.

The Holiday Inn and Candlewood Suites projects could break ground as early as August this year and open its doors as early as mid-2015.
