The Final Design For The Canal Street Ferry Terminal Footbridge [We’ve Got Renderings!]

The City’s plans to demolish the existing Canal Street ferry terminal and replace it with a a new project is moving forward, with final designs released last week.

On December 12, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) released the final, futuristic design for the new terminal.

Representatives of Royal Engineering and Consultants, the project manager, presented the designs and said they have received more than 100 public comments that they tried to incorporate.  The final plans call for a terminal with 5,000 square feet of enclosed shelter and another 5,000 square feet of covered area,  canopies for rain cover over new gangways, and a floating dock for embarkation.

Manning Architects worked on the design of the $7,300,000 footbridge.  The City plans to open bidding to general contractors soon, begin construction after Mardi Gras, and complete the project within 12-14 months.
