The Feil Organization filed permits with the city for the renovation of 818 Howard Street, an old office building that 818 Howard, LLC purchased in 2016 for $3.55 million.
The 4-story building at 818 Howard will become apartments and The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience. The museum will occupy the first two floors of 28,000 square foot building and eight luxury apartments on the upper floors. A fifth floor penthouse and co-working space is also being added.
Duplantis Design Group is the architect and Landis Construction is the general contractor. Patrick Gallagher, the world renowned museum designer who designed the National World War II Museum, is also on board and designing the museum.
The New York-based Feil Organization has been investing heavily in New Orleans for decades. They currently own Lakeside Shopping Center, the Galleria, the Costco on Carrollton, a large development site on Tulane Avenue, and the new Ochsner medical office building on Jefferson Highway, among many other projects.
