Demolition Permits with the city have revealed plans for a new 207 room extended stay Homewood Suites by Hilton and 40 residential apartments. The project will occupy the entire block bounded by N Rampart, Bienville, Basin and Conti Streets that is currently home to a supply company.

It looks like HRI Properties is the developer behind the proposal.  We reached out and are waiting on confirmation/comment.  Stay tuned for updates.

What a bland design. Could they not decide on what type a fenestration to use? All brick? White stucco? Glass and metal panels? Hell, let’s use a little of each. This is not a facade; it’s a collage.

They could have done A LOT better in selecting a design that meshes with the historic architecture of the neighborhood.

What an appalling design (I cannot use the word ‘architecture’ to describe this)! Cheap hotels are always built in a cheap manner; otherwise, they are not economically feasible. The planning commission / council should reject these plans outright.

How is it possible this is being built in the French Quarter? It’s a hideous addition to Rampart Street. A small restaurant in a 20-year abandoned gas station is being fought for years because it doesn’t suit requirements, but THIS is okay??!!! Is there some kind of rule that if it’s for tourists, anything goes???? This will ruin the look of historic Rampart which is finally looking pretty good.

  5. CeeCee says:

Looks terrible, but I guess that block already looks quite bad. I think they should make them try harder with the design though. Everyone wants to build in the Quarter–be picky!!
