Hotel Occupancy Down Slightly From 2012

According to Smith Travel Research’s Hotel Review, New Orleans’ occupancy rate dipped by about 3.1 percent last month to 74.9 percent compared with October 2012. The average daily room increased from about $148 per room in October 2012 to $156.76 last month. Revenue per hotel room also increased slightly by about $2 per room to $117.37.

New Orleans occupancy placed it 12th on the list. Smith considers hotels in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Charles, St. James, St. John and St. Tammany parishes part of the New Orleans market.

Smith tracks the top 25 travel markets in the U.S. Last month, Norfolk-Virginia Beach had the lowest occupancy rate in this group, averaging about 50 percent. San Francisco had the highest rate at 90.3 percent.
