New Restaurant at Magazine and Nashville Gets Approval from City Planning

Last week, the City Planning Commission blessed a plan by restauranteurs Sean Josephs and Mani Dawes to open a new restaurant on the corner of Magazine Street and Nashville Avenue, reports Uptown Messenger.  The 89 seat restaurant is part of an upcoming real estate redevelopment project by Butler Callahan Holdings, the owner of the real estate.

The restaurant will feature a baked-goods breakfast selection, a casual lunch, oysters in the afternoon and casual fine dining for dinner, “with a menu designed in part to complement the bourbon selection that is a mainstay of Joseph’s other restaurants.”

There were no opponents at the CPC meeting, and the Audubon Riverside Neighborhood Association is in favor of the project after coming to terms with the entrepreneurs and executing a good neighbor agreement.

The CPC also required 15 conditions for the restaurant, including closing by 10 p.m. on weeknights and midnights on Fri/Sat, limiting the bar to 15% of  floor space, having a litter plan, and reigning in outdoor seating.

Now the matter goes to City Council for full approval.

The restaurant owners have a history of running successful businesses. Dawes is the owner of a tapas restaurant known as Tía Pol in Manhattan. Whereas, Josephs owns Char No. 4 in Brooklyn and Maysville in Manhattan.
