The Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association has sued the City of New Orleans in an attempt to prevent a provision that was added at the last minute in the city’s new zoning law.

Specifically, the group wants to prevent a last-minute amendment added byMayor Mitch Landrieu that would allow taller and more dense residential buildings along the riverfront.  The lawsuit alleges that the last-minute amendment violated the law and seeks a permanent injunction restraining the city from enacting or enforcing the riverfront amendment.

The amendment in questions increases the height limit from 50 to 55 feet in along the riverfront in the Marigny and Bywater, and allows developers to exceed that limit by 25 feet if the development includes things like percent affordable housing, green building standards and public spaces.

I dislike the FMIA so much I hope the city prevails in making their precious neighborhood an absolute nightmare for them, not because I agree with the city’s plans but because they are the worst group of NIMBYs I’ve ever encountered in Nola.
