Rendering of the new hotel via City of New Orleans. Design by John Campo Architects.
The proposed Moxy Hotel at 744 St. Charles Avenue in the CBS hit another snag this week as the CBD Architectural Review Committee pushed back on the two designs presented by the developers.
Husband and wife Barry and Lorraine Dinvaut bought the building for $2,000,000 in 2013, and are working with Lenny Wormser of NAI/Latter & Blum to develop the building.
They originally proposed an eight-story building with a hotel, luxury condos, and retail/restaurant (Check out the plans). The Lafayette Square Association threw a fit, and they went back to the drawing board. Architect John Campo reduced the height to bring it within the 65 foot height limit, and proposed some design changes to accommodate the issues.
The Committee wasn’t happy with the massing of the upper floors and suggested a setback to the design, among a few others.
The developers now have to go back to the drawing board to try to rework the project.
Meanwhile, the other Moxy hotel in the CBD, the conversion of the former Quality Inn on O’Keefe, is coming along nicely.
