The live entertainment venue on Lake Pontchartrain proposed by developer Roland Von Kurnatowski secured City Council approval last week.

The complex will feature a 5,000-person outdoor theater, with restaurants, retail space, and an open air market.  The site is the former Bally’s Casino dock, which has been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina.

Von Kurnatowski, the owner of Tipitina’s and the Orpheum Theater, expects the development to cost $13 million.  Originally dubbed Tipitinas Southshore, the project now bears the name Lakeshore Landing.

The project is next to a 19-acre site with potential for a marina, mainra supply store, fuel dock, and boathouse.

The property is owned by the Orleans Levee District and managed by the state Non-Flood Asset Authority.   Von Kurnatowski has a 50 year lease on the land.

A recording studio would be part of phase two, along with prospects for an operational WWII PT boat in partnership with the National World War II Museum.
