The Archdiocese of New Orleans is planning to build a $15 million, 77 unit senior citizen apartment complex in the Lower 9th Ward, reports CityBusiness.

The complex, to be known as Villa St. Maurice, was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina and later demolished.

CityBusiness reports that the Archdiocese is currently seeking bids from contractors to build the project.

Villa St. Maurice is designed as a five-story apartment building with 77 one-bedroom units at 500 St. Maurice Ave. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will subsidize rents.

The designers are Laichin Oubre Architects of Metairie.

The complex is being financed in part from a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
