Rendering of the proposed Omni Convention Center via Matthews Southwest Hospitality.
Last week, the development team of the proposed Omni Hotel at the Convention Center released the first renderings of the hotel.
The $557 million, 1,200 room Omni Hotel will also include 150,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space and ground-floor retail on an 8.1-acre site at the upriver end of the exhibition hall. There would be a sky bridge that connects the hotel to the convention center.
The development team, consisting of local developers Darryl Berger and Joe Jaeger, Dallas-based Matthews Southwest Hospitality, and Dallas-based Preston Hollow Capital, has faced public “pushback” for the amount of subsidy being sought.
The New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority says the hotel is needed for the convention center to compete with other, larger convention centers around the nation.
