According to our friends at Mid City Messenger, the owners of the La Petit motel on Tulane Avenue have proposed converting an abandoned wing of the motel into five, one-bedroom apartment.

The building, located at 2900 Tulane Avenue, needs a variance from the Board of Zoning Adjustments so that developers Bahram Khoobehi and Houssien Magarhish can convert the motel into five units of approximately 536 square feet, which is 264 square feet below the 800 square foot limit.

The “LePetite Apartments” would rent for $1,500 per month and will only be allowing typical leases, not short term rentals.

The owners recently received a demolition permit for the motel, which has sat abandoned since Katrina.  Their original plan was to combine the land that sits under the hotel with the lot next door and convert it into a mixed-use retail and office complex.  A few months ago, however, the listed the 39,000 square foot property for sale for $3,215,000.  Carly Plotkin and Joe Gardner with Stirling Properties are the listing agents.
