Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) has secured a $3.65 million federal earmark for the Greater New Orleans Food & Beverage Incubator, which will be located at the Churchill campus in Avondale. This funding increases the project’s total budget to $8.7 million, paving the way for construction to commence in the fall of 2026 with operations expected by 2028.

The incubator will span approximately 12,000 square feet and include multiple commercial kitchens, FDA-licensed production spaces, and specialized equipment for food manufacturing and storage. JEDCO unveiled architectural designs created by Eskew Dumez Ripple, with U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy assisting in securing the federal earmark.

The project is poised to have a substantial impact on the local food industry by providing much-needed production capacity for small food businesses in the region. It is expected to alleviate bottlenecks that local food and beverage manufacturers face, offering real, leasable production space and potentially catalyzing further private investment in the area.

The incubator’s new capacity presents significant opportunities for brokers, industrial developers, and investors who focus on last-mile food manufacturing and cold storage. With the $8.7 million funding package now secured, the risk associated with construction and future tenancy is reduced, making it an attractive prospect for stakeholders in the region.

Anticipation surrounds the potential economic ripple effects, such as increased demand for adjacent logistics, packaging, and distribution spaces. The project may also drive workforce impacts in the Avondale/Churchill campus submarket, possibly leading to follow-on investments in related sectors.
