Developer Scott Begg plans to demolish a two-story warehouse at 611 Commerce Street to build a six-story apartment building with off-street parking.
Begg and Metro Studio Architects have submitted plans to the Historic District Landmarks Commission’s Architectural Review committee.
According to submitted plans, the current plan includes a 65-foot building with ground floor parking and five floors of residences. The project would include 10 two-bedroom apartments with more than two parking spaces available for each unit. Each unit would be near 2,000 square feet and one each floor, one unit will face Tchoupitoulas Street and another will face Commerce Street.
According to Orleans Parish records, Begg purchased the warehouse property in 2012 for $535,000.
Begg’s development sits directly adjacent to the proposed seven-story, 166 room Cambria Inn & Suites by Ohio-based Filmore Hospitality.
