Each year, Travel + Leisure reveals its list of Best Hotels in the World, or the “It List.” The Pontchartrain Hotel, located on St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District, was one of only 44 properties around the world to make the 2017 list.

The awards will be published in the March 2017 issue of Travel + Leisure, but went live online last week.

“Amid a wave of fashionable openings, the Pontchartrain best captures NOLA’s spirit and history,” writes Travel + Leisure. “The 1940s glamour of vintage keys and chandeliers juxtaposed with seemingly incongruent pieces, like a portrait of Lil Wayne, make it elegant and cool in equal measure.”

The formerly blighted hotel was renovated and reopened in June 2016, along with the Caribbean Room, Bayou Bar, and Hot Tin on the property. The hotel hotel has 106 rooms and is approximately 108,000 square feet.

AJ Capital Partners, based in Chicago, oversaw the redevelopment of the hotel.
