Last week, the City Planning Commission voted 6-0 to approve a proposal for a new construction hotel project at 3220 Chartres St. in Bywater.

The five story hotel would feature 18 suites in an apartment style format, including kitchens and living rooms, a public rooftop with pool a pool and bar, and three commercial spaces on the ground floor ranging from 1,447 square feet to 1,789 square feet. The building would be 67 feet tall and cost $6 million in hard costs, likely significantly more in overall total project costs.

The developers, Schoen Fuselier & Balzebre LLC, needed conditional use approval in the HM-MU district in order to be permitted to have a hotel in the district. The decision now moves to the city council.

The project was originally envisioned as condo project called Piety on the Park, which would have featured 12 residential condos over four floors and commercial space on the ground floor.
