A plan by a local developer to redevelop the old Turnbull Bakeries site in the Lower Garden District into 17 single family homes was approved by the City Planning Commission and sent to the New Orleans City Council, report our friends at the Uptown Messenger.

Developer Nicole Weber will be transforming the former production facility for Melba Toast into 17 houses that match the historic character of the neighborhood.

The Historic District Landmarks Commission granted Webre the right to demolish the structures in March.  The development also needs a rezoning from industrial to residential, and a resubdivision so Webre can build on each of the lots and then sell them individually.
