The New Orleans Advocate reports that they will be moving their headquarters to a new office at 840 St. Charles Avenue.
The newspaper will take over the 23,000-square-foot former Klein Motors car dealership turned dance hall at 840 St. Charles Ave.
Business magnate John Georges, who also owns the Advocate, purchased the building for $1.63 million in September.
The building’s original car showroom will be converted into a community gathering place and reception hall that will hold several hundred people and can be rented to the public. Plans also call for a commercial kitchen and a coffee shop fronting St. Charles Avenue and second floor offices for the Georges Media Group.
The Advocate’s current New Orleans office is located at 329 Baronne Street.
840 St. Charles Avenue was built in the early 1950s for Klein Motors, which sold cars made by the Kaiser-Frazer Corp. The building’ most recent use was Michaul’s, a dance hall and restaurant.
The project architects are Tore Wallin, of Mayo Wallin Architectural Studio LLC.
