All that is left of 309 Magazine Street is an empty facade. But if developer-architect Trey Trahan gets his way, the vacant building built in 1854 will soon be home to a 12 story “sliver” tower.
According to plans submitted to the city, an office building will be built at 309 Magazine Street with a 12-story tower of high end apartments behind it. The lower floors of both buildings will be office space. The apartments will face Picayune Place, currently just an alley.
Current zoning laws restrict the eight to 85 feet, so the developer will need to obtain a zoning variance.
Another developer, Josh Bruno, had proposed a 20 story “Sliver” building in the warehouse district before it was rejected by the City Council.
Trahan, through his company 309 Magazine Street, LLC, purchased the property from attorney John Cummings III (father of developer Sean Cummings) for $612,000 in April 2012.
Trahan Architects is also the architect of record.
Check out the picks below.
Let us wait to hear that the handful of residents that always get their way over the other +350 K of us in this city successfully kill the project. Apparently these select few can afford the Mayor’s constant tax increases due to budget shortfalls. Development is the only way to pay for city services, but a select few rather empty buildings and higher taxes to keep NOLA to themselves.
