Creative event and design firm The Solomon Group is renovating a building that will hold enough space to nearly quadruple the size of its downtown offices.
Founder Gary Solomon Jr. said the company has been working to renovate a 10,000-square-foot building at 819 Girod St. that will be the firm’s new home office. The business is currently based at 900 S. Peters St.
Solomon applied for a $1 million building permit Dec. 10 for the second phase of renovations to the two-story Girod Street property. Ryan Gootee General Contractors is the GC and Eskew+Dumez+Ripple is the architect.
CityBusiness reports that Soloman
purchased the building about two years ago with the intent of converting it into new offices. According to Orleans Parish conveyance records, Solomon Group Ventures purchased the building for $1.134 million from the Dr. G.H. Tichenor Antiseptic Co. The building was the original New Orleans office for the mouthwash and toothpaste company, which opened in 1905.
The ground floor will have about 7,000 square feet of office space, nearly four times the size of the current office. The firm also has a 40,000-square-foot fabrication and production facility in Algiers.
