The University of Maryland team has taken top honors in the Urban Land Institute’s 2015 Hines Competition with its winning plan to transform the Tulane/Gravier and Iberville neighborhoods into a thriving urban neighborhood.

The Maryland team beat out two teams from Harvard and a joint team representing the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

As the winning team, Maryland students get $50,000; while each of the remaining three finalist teams received $10,000.  The announcement was made at the competition’s conclusion April 9th in New Orleans.

Maryland’s proposal, The Crossing, focused on engaging nearby medical campuses and the Lafitte Greenway.  It was designed to connect tourists and natives with greenway and park, a street car line, and a Resilience Center, a building that includes a museum as well as unique NOLA fare like gutbucket lessons.

You can check out the renderings and read about the other finalist teams and their development proposals here.
