CrescentCare, a Federally Qualified Health Center, and developer Gulf Coast Housing Partnership have announced plans to break ground next week on a new comprehensive health care center at 1631 Elysian Fields in the 8th Ward.

The new 65,000 square foot campus will offer primary medical care, dentistry, pediatrics, HIV counseling & testing, case management, and behavioral health services.  The new site combines four of CrescentCare’s current service sites into a comprehensive campus, and is expected to triple the agency’s capacity for services.

CrescentCare’s decision to expand follows nearly three years of success at its flagship CrescentCare Health and Wellness Center located at 3308 Tulane Avenue. By tripling the number of individuals that CrescentCare can serve, the organization will make a meaningful impact on health outcomes in New Orleans.

According to a written statement from CrescentCare, there are no comparable primary care facilities in the immediate vicinity of the site. CrescentCare seeks to meet the needs of the surrounding community as the flagship health provider in the neighborhood.

Funding for the new facility was made possible through loan financing of $10 million, provided by the Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC), with the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF) and Reinvestment Fund as participating lenders. Funding also included an allocation of New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC), federal tax credits designed to stimulate investment in low-income communities. In total, $21 million in NMTCs were allocated by PCDC ($10 million), Hope Enterprise ($8 million), and JPMorgan Chase ($3 million). JPMorgan Chase is also the investor.
