The Joy Theater recently underwent interior cosmetic renovations to enhance the overall patron experience at the 10,000 square foot venue on Canal Street.

Originally opened in 1947 as a movie house, the theater was closed down in 2003 and reopened following post-Katrina renovations in 2011. Then, the operating rights to the Joy Theater were sold to live music company AEG Presents in 2017.

AEG Presents had partnered with New Orleans production company Winter Circle Productions in 2014, and one year later acquired the company. The two now host over 100 events at the Joy Theater each year.

“Winter Circle’s market expertise backed by AEG’s resources is the best of both worlds for us and we’re thrilled to have them as our tenant,” shared Allan McDonnel, managing partner of the Joy Theater ownership group.  “Having the Joy join the network of AEG Presents venues nationwide is an exciting move for the property and yet another step in the revitalization of Canal Street.”

Upgrades to the 1,200 person venue include a new sound system and acoustic treatments, new bars and finishes, updated paint, wall treatments, lighting, and curtain track, and renovations throughout the green room.
