The University of New Orleans unveiled plans to start a new football program and build a new stadium on its campus. Last month, the university unveiled architectural renderings of a 20,000-seat, open-air stadium from Garcia Architecture. UNO officials identified a 100-acre tract of open land between Maestri Field and Lakeshore Drive as a potential stadium site on the school’s campus.
In order for the plan to become reality, UNO students need to approve an increase in student fees during a voting referendum Nov. 9. The proposed increase to a $300 flat fee for part-time students and $400 for full-time students is required to fund the estimated $4 million to $5 million annual expense.
