The Audubon Nature Institute has announced the next phase of the Goldring Woldenberg Riverfront Park, set to open in spring 2026. This new segment will provide continuous public riverfront access between Spanish Plaza and Crescent Park for the first time in generations.

The project involves transforming a former Governor Nicholls Street Wharf warehouse into landscaped parkland and a playground. This new segment is part of an adaptive reuse strategy that significantly enhances downtown New Orleans’ riverfront corridor.

The completed section will stretch nearly 2¼ miles along the Mississippi River, offering a seamless connection between key downtown landmarks. The opening is timed to coincide with the French Quarter Festival in spring 2026, aligning with local tourism and hospitality strategies.

Audubon Nature Institute has spearheaded the project, with significant support from the Goldring Family and Woldenberg Foundations. While detailed financial and construction agreements remain unconfirmed, the project’s public-sector backing underscores its importance to municipal planning and development.

Looking ahead, the next phase will involve the demolition of the Esplanade Wharf, indicating ongoing expansion plans. This development not only enhances public access but is poised to influence adjacent commercial real estate and spur economic activity in the area.
