Mohan Kailas, the developer of 1031 Canal, is moving forward with the development of the the $70-million project. Last week his company applied for a building permit for the project that will 240 luxury residences and 15 penthouses with 56,000-square feet of retail space at the edge of the Quarter.
The site at Canal and North Rampart streets was the longtime home of New Orleans’ flagship Woolworth’s store, but it has been vacant and blighted for years.
