Yesterday, the City Council unanimously approved a the first new hotel in the French Quarter in 45 years.

A new 80 room boutique hotel will soon take shape at 111 Iberville Street, despite some protests by the neighborhood.

The development would be the first new French Quarter hotel since 1969, when the city issued a moratorium on new hotels in the French Quarter.   The moratorium does not apply to the block between Canal Street and Iberville, where many hotels have been constructed.

The new hotel, which received City Planning Commission approval in December, is being developed by Wayne and David Ducote.

You can check out designs and plans for the new hotel here.
