Developer Sean Cummings’ plans to redevelop two blocks of warehouses in the Bywater into a mixed-use development return to the City Planning Commission today.

Cummings is proposing the new Via Latrobe development for land at Chartres and Press streets, which would include building 260 apartments and more than 23,000 square feet of commercial space.

The development will feature residences, artist studios, an urban farm, and retail space.  The development will also 2 pocket parks, a new interior street, an art gallery, and restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries.

Neighbors were concerned about the original development and asked for more information on his intentions with the commercial space.  The CPC staff supports the project with provisos, as does the Bywater Neighborhood Association.

Cummings is seeking a zoning change from industrial to mixed-use to make the project a reality.

The City Planning Commission takes up the project for consideration at 1:30 p.m. today.
