Good Work Network kicks off construction of its newest project: Roux Carré, the Food Port of New Orleans.

Roux Carré: The Food Port of New Orleans, is Good Work Network’s newest project.  Roux Carré is an outdoor food court and gathering place that celebrates the African American, Caribbean, and Latin American traditions with culinary offerings and performances.

Last week, Good Work Network broke ground on the development, which will include six enclosed food vendor stalls, a commercial kitchen, covered outdoor seating and gathering space, a cooking demonstration area, and a performance stage.

The food court promotes community development by providing a low-cost, low-overhead means of market entry for aspiring food service businesses; establishing a unique, culturally grounded gathering space; creating jobs for low-income individuals; and  bringing vacant property in a low-income neighborhood back into commerce in a way that honors its culturally and historically rich location.

Very exciting to see projects like this get off the ground!
