The long vacant Sara Mayo Hospital at 625 Jackson Avenue has been purchased, and is slated to be converted into a 211-unit, eight story apartment complex with commercial, restaurants, and offices, reports our friends at the Uptown Messenger.

The Kailas Company bought the shuttered property from a lender in 2014.  The building had been vacant since the 1980’s.

Kailas’ plans for the development include 17,500 square feet of ground floor commercial space, and one and two bed room market rate apartments on the upper seven stories.  The building will also feature a roof top pool and garden, although it will be under the 75 foot height limit.  A parking structure will also be built to hold an estimated 375 cars.  The property will be named Jackson Oaks.

The Kailas Company was recently working on the $70 million mixed-use development at 1031 Canal, including the and also recently purchased the 31 story office building at 1010 Common.
