Construction has started on the historic renovation of the building located at 1101 Decatur Street in the French Quarter.
VTM Properties, LLC, an entity controlled by Chandru Motwani, has partnered with Woodward Design + Build to renovate the historic french quarter property. Motwani and Woodward are also working together on the luxury apartments in the CBD at Camp and Canal.
According to Woodward’s website, the building was built in 1884 had fallen into disrepair over the years. The renovation will bring the dilapidated building back to full use, creating 4 one bedroom apartments and over 1,740 square feet of street level retail in the heart of the French Quarter, directly adjacent to the French Market.
Renovation of the 6,300 square foot building will cost $1,150,000. VTM Properties, LLC purchased the property in 2010.
Many historic elements of the building’s architecture, recreating the original arched entryway and sidewalk canopy will be restored. Construction is expected to take 6 months with a scheduled opening in May 2014.
