Developer Dr. Narinder Gupta has plans to transform a vacant five-story building across from the $2 billion Mid-City hospital complex into a new boutique.
The 47,000-square-foot building has been on the market for years. The building has been vacant since Hurricane Katrina.
Gupta purchased the building in 2013 for $800,000 from Iberia Bank. The above Loopnet listing indicates that the previous owner has plans to renovate the building into condos.
Gupta’s plans indicates that he wants to add two floors to the five-story building for between 122 and 132 rooms, which would make the building roughly 65,000 square feet. It would also feature a restaurant and lounge on the first floor. Hotel Loren may be the name of the new hotel according to some renderings filed with the city.
He will need a conditional use permit for the hotel use for the height increase.
