The State of Louisiana announced over the weekend that they leased the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel at 500 Canal Street for use as a medical facility to handle the overflow of coronavirus patients.
The 1,110 room hotel will be used in conjunction with the new make-shift hospital at the Convention Center for coronavirus patients.
The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, or GOHSEP, – signed the lease with the Sheraton. The plan is to convert floors to accomodate 25 patients and one nurse station per floor. They will also create a cafeteria for medical staff.
The lease will provide a nice boost to the Sheraton in a city where most hotels are closed or under 10% occupancy. 75% of the contract value will be covered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
