Patriot Rail has secured up to $47.7 million in federal grants through the Federal Railroad Administration’s CRISI program, announced on October 19-20. These awards are allocated to three major projects, including a multi-state bridge-repair bundle, a locomotive modernization program, and track upgrades. These initiatives will impact rail-served industrial land and supply-chain reliability in the New Orleans area.

The awards include up to $15.65 million for the ‘One Beautiful Bridge Bundle for America’ project, which involves repair work across six states, including Louisiana. The grant also includes $15.23 million for the ‘POWER’ locomotive program to replace and add locomotives, and up to $16.84 million for the ‘COHORTS 2’ project, focusing on track replacements and grade crossings.

The rail developments span Patriot Rail’s short lines, with Louisiana and North West Railroad providing a 40% non-federal funding match for the bridge repairs. This private-sector investment aims to minimize service outages, potentially increasing the appeal of rail-served sites to logistics and industrial tenants.

While specific project timelines and construction schedules have not been confirmed, improvements in rail infrastructure are expected to enhance freight reliability and may drive investor interest in industrial properties near rail connections, notably around New Orleans East and the West Bank.

The funding is part of Patriot Rail’s broader efforts to modernize its rail assets, enhancing efficiency and service in interconnected states. More detailed project schedules and funding structure specifics would require further releases from the FRA or Patriot Rail.
