This acquisition marks a strategic move to transform the nearly century-old hotel into a visitor and cultural center, potentially boosting heritage tourism in Grand Isle and Jefferson Parish.

The transaction, finalized at Grand Isle Town Hall, was facilitated by a range of contributors including an anonymous lead donor and several influential figures such as Jefferson Parish Councilman Tim Kerner, the Karen B. Yoh Foundation, Gary Chouest, Boysie Bollinger, Todd Graves, and the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation. Local officials, notably Mayor David Camardelle, also played roles in the acquisition process, highlighting a collaborative community effort.

Originally built in 1929, the Oleander Hotel’s conversion into a cultural hub aligns with the nonprofit’s mission to capitalize on the property’s rich history and local significance. While the purchase price remains undisclosed, the $400,000 raised is intended to cover acquisition and initial preservation costs. Restoration planning will include establishing a permanent exhibit for photographer Fonville Winans and space for rotating Louisiana art displays.
