Southern Theatres Newly Built Kenner Multiplex To Open Dec. 12

New Orleans-based Southern Theatres will open its newly built multiplex — the Grand 14 Esplanade — on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 12.

The Grand 14 Esplanade will feature all stadium-seating auditoriums with digital projection and 3-D capabilities. Plans call for one “premiere” auditorium with a three-story-tall screen and “a fully immersive digital projection and sound experience.” In addition to a traditional concession stand, the theater will also house a bar, featuring a full line of cocktails, beer and daiquiris.

The new theater is located at 1401 West Esplanade Ave., right outside The Esplanade shopping mall.

Southern Theatres, with the backing of private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson, operates 20 cinemas with 292 screens in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. Locally, the group manages the Theatres at Canal Place, which is undergoing an expansion.
