On Tuesday, the New Orleans City Planning Commission gave developers approval to move forward with a zoning change that would allow the St. Peter and Paul Church Complex on Burgundy to be converted into a 71 key hotel.

The City Council still has to approve the measure.

The developers include Nathalie Jordi, a Tulane MBA and Marigny resident, and Ari Heckman, an up and coming hotelier from New York.

The church complex is made up of four buildings. There is an 8,900-square-foot church sanctuary, which was built in the 1860s, a school building, a convent and a rectory.

The developers will be keeping the sanctuary as community space, and most of the rooms will be housed in the old school building.  No new construction will take place.

You can check out the full design plans here.
