Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Development Co. is starting construction work on over 840 acres of residential, commercial and industrial development on property known as Tamanend.
Weyerhaeuser is providing the infrastructure of roads, drainage and sewage for the property, which is located along Highway 434 near the Louisiana Heart Hospital. Apparently the Weyerhaeuser company is seeking secondary developers to build the residential houses and commercial property on the land.
Due to the recession, the project was put on hold for seven years, but now with the construction of the Northshore Technical Community College underway, the development of the Tamanend area can be restarted.
St. Tammany Parish supports the development because it has the potential of bringing new activity to the central part of the parish.
In the past year there has been an increase in construction permits for residential development in the parish. With the increase in construction permits and being situated between Slidell and Mandeville, it is the right time for this well planned out construction to take place.
