Developer McCormack Baron Salazar will break ground soon on a $24 million, 76 unit apartment complex. 30 of the units are affordable and reserved for Section 8 housing.
The four-story complex is planned for the old Winn Dixie site on St. Louis and Basin Streets. The Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) owns the land. HANO received a federal grant in 2011 to rebuild the site with affordable housing units.
The development will include a walkway extension to the Lafitte Greenway and 60 parking spaces.
Last week, the company secured a $4,630 annual tax break with a 3 percent annual increase over 25 years from the city’s Industrial Development Board
New Orleans-based HCI Architecture and Schrenk Endom Flanagan are the architects and designers on the project. Landis Construction is the general contractor.
