Developer Philip Spiegelman announced plans to build a massive new development in Algiers on the bank of the Mississippi River.  The project would feature four -story buildings, 345 apartments, and ground floor retail and shopping.

The project would unfold on 3.4 acres and also include a pedestrian plaza and public park, parking garages, and 35 low-income units.

Spiegelman is seeking a waiver of the city’s 167 unit-cap on riverfront developments from the City Planning Commission.  The Commission voted to defer the vote until the February 6 meeting.

The plans look great, and are certainly better than a vacant piece of land at that prime location.  Many developers have tried over the years to develop the site, but nothing has come to fruition.  The project is near the newly announced NOLA City Beach, a new beach, pool, and restaurant development in Algiers Point.

Check out the renderings!
