The new $35 million Cambria Hotel & Suites at 632 Tchoupitoulas St. started taking reservations in October, and has an invite-only grand opening scheduled for January 11, 2018.
The hotel is located in the Warehouse District. Developers Fillmore Capital Partners and Fillmore Hospitality broke ground on the project in 2015.
“This is another important milestone for the Cambria Hotels brand as we continue to open in markets with a balance of cultural and corporate offerings demanded and valued by today’s modern traveler,” said Janis Cannon, senior vice president, upscale brands at Choice Hotels. “We’re thrilled to once again have worked with Fillmore Hospitality to bring this great property to market. It follows recent Cambria and Fillmore Capital Partners openings in Los Angeles – LAX, Chicago Magnificent Mile, and Southlake – DFW.”
Landis Construction is the general contractor and Holly and Smith Architects is the designer and architect.
The hotel will feature a full-service restaurant, fitness center and 1,200 square feet of meeting space. Vidak Sparr, former executive chef at Dick & Jenny’s, will lead its food and beverage program.
Filmore had originally proposed a much larger project: a 178-key hotel made up of two buildings: a 65-foot structure that would face 632 Tchoup and a 75-footer with an entrance on Commerce Street. The 75-foot part of the plans, scaled back from its original try for 95-feet, would have required a waiver since height limits in this part of town cap out at 65-feet.
