Plans Last week, the Historic District Landmarks Commission granted design approval for the seven-story, 162-room Cambria Suites hotel on an L-shaped surface parking lot at 632 Tchoupitoulas St. in the warehouse district.
Filmore Hospitality has proposed the 108,000 hotel development that would take the place of a surface parking lot and small building. The hotel would include a full service restaurant, meeting space, and on-site parking.
Holly and Smith Architects are designing the project.
Filmore had originally proposed a much larger project: a 178-key hotel made up of two buildings: a 65-foot structure that would face 632 Tchoup and a 75-footer with an entrance on Commerce Street. The 75-foot part of the plans, scaled back from its original try for 95-feet, would require a waiver since height limits in this part of town cap out at 65-feet.
The site sits adjacent to developer Scott Begg’s proposed 6 story apartment building at 611 Commerce Street.
