The Urban Land Institute has selected the four finalists for its Hines Competition and a $50,000 prize.

The competition provides students with the opportunity to devise a comprehensive design and development program for parts of the Tulane/Gravier and Iberville downtown neighborhoods.

While no New Orleans teams were named, the finalists from Harvard, Maryland, and Wisconsin look like they’ve put together some great proposals.

The Wisconsin proposal is a four phase plan with affordable housing, and a ton of outdoor activities and food trucks.

The first Harvard proposal is all about the landscape that once characterized North Claiborne Avenue and prioritizes redevelopment of the street most critical to the growth and transformation of the neighborhood. The proposal’s central design element is “the Grove,” a linear multi-purpose park and urban landscape sited below elevated Interstate 10. Uniting the Grove is a vast canopy lattice structure wrapping underneath I-10 and extending along the elevated highway in rhythmic form.

Harvard’s second proposal, Treme 2.0, focuses on “unlocking its past.”  The project proposes a 23 acre development that inclues services for older residents, the Parlor Corridor, which which is heavily catered towards Millenials, and the Parade, which makes up a series of walkways and sky paths

The University of Maryland’s proposal, The Crossing, is designed to connect tourists and natives with greenway and park, a street car line, and a Resilience Center, a building that includes a museum as well as unique NOLA fare like gutbucket lessons.
