The Alliance for Neighborhood Prosperity (ANP) is a non-profit organization of property owners, property managers, and others who support and promote responsible private home rentals and visitor housing choice.
As many in New Orleans know, the city and its residents are in the midst of a private home rental debate.
Rental websites like Airbnb have given way to a new segment of travel, explains Polly Hardie, ANP President. “People crave the opportunity to experience places like a local and staying in a private residence speaks to that which is why it’s becoming so popular. These accommodations increase visitor choice and compliment the types of lodging that are already available through hotels & B&Bs.”
Additionally, Hardie says there is no data to support the claim that Private Home Rentals are driving up rents and destroying neighborhoods. “These are convenient yet unsubstantiated claims meant to spread fear of the Private Home Rental phenomenon.”
Littlefield Consulting conducted a public opinion survey of likely voters in New Orleans on January 27th, 2015. Since ANP supports data-driven decision making, and has released an information collected from the random sampling of 495 voters who responded to the seven-question survey.
Key points are included below and shown on the infographic:
• 59 percent of participants agreed that traditional short-term rental properties are important to New Orleans’ tourism industry.
• 70 percent of participants believe all short-term rental properties should register with the city of New Orleans to make sure all hotel taxes are paid.
• When asked if traditional short-term rentals in New Orleans should be banned or required to register, pay taxes and fall under city regulations, 67 percent of participants voted in favor of regulation.
