The proposed grocery store and condominium project at the site of former Freret Street music venue Publiq House obtained City Planning Commission approval yesterday (Tuesday, September 11). The project now heads to the City Council for a final vote.
Developers Green Coast Enterprises and Neighborhood Housing Services are seeking to convert the former Publiq House space at 4528 Freret into a neighborhood grocery store and construct a new, 24-unit condo building over the adjacent parking lot.
The commission voted 5-2 to recommend that the entire project move forward, including permission to add six additional units. The project will have seven affordable housing units and feature several green features like solar power. The grocery store tenant has not yet been announced.
The architect is Nick Marshall with Chase Marshall Architects.
A different developer last year proposed building nine town homes over the parking lot in a project that was shot down by city planners.
