As reported back in October, the city has finally announced that the brand new $900 million Louis Armstrong International Airport under construction will add another 5 gates to the current plans, with a price tag of $110 million.

Apparently demand for air travel through New Orleans is so strong that the City decided to add the gates now, rather that try to build more years in the future.  The added cost brings the total project cost to about $920 million.

The initial design called for a 30-date terminal that would allow for easy expansion up to 42 gates.  The current terminal has a total of 36 gates. The additional funds will be raised through city-issued bonds.

The city recently announced restaurants and renderings of all the new food options for the new terminal.

The 802,00-square-foot terminal is being built by joint venture Hunt Gibbs Boh Metro, and the project is expected to be complete by October 2018.
