The first floor of the Pan American Life Center at 601 Poydras St. got an upgrade this year with the conversion of 15,000 square feet of conference space into retail and restaurant space.
Building owner Stirling Properties just announced that the new Starbucks held a soft opening yesterday. They are also anticipating the opening of a new 8,000 square foot restaurant called Tsunami Sushi, along with a retail Morris Bart office where clients can come in off the street to meet with attorneys. Stirling has said that a fourth retailer will be joining as well, although that retailer has not yet been announced.
The Palmisano Group was the general contractor on the project.
Real estate firm Stirling Properties owns the building, which it purchased from San Diego-based Equastone LLC for $60.9 million in 2011. Pan-American Insurance has been headquartered in the building since 1981, signed a ten year extension for space at the building in 2014, and added 9,000 space in 2016.
The part they don’t advertise is that they opened up a Starbucks when there has already been another local owned coffee shop in the same downstairs lobby for 4 years. Way to support small business Sterling!
