Algiers residents who worked for 6 years to to get the blighted condos at 1100 Patterson Road demolished finally saw the fruit of their labor last week when the 30 unit condos building was destroyed within a few hours.
“We never gave up,” says Skip Gallagher, a Board Member and former President of the Algiers Point Association. “It is amazing what a small group of persistent residents can do when they stick with a problem and follow it through. Council member Kristen Gisleson Palmer has been a huge help, writing letters and sending queries on our behalf. A few years ago, four neighbors and I started calling the banks every week. We thought we had the issue figured out a number of times in the past to no avail. Today, is truly a victory for all of us.”
Councilmember Gisleson Palmer says, “The demolition demonstrates what’s possible when individuals, neighborhood groups, and government work together to address problems.”
No word on what might be developed at the site.
